About Us
The Queensland University Musical Society (QUMS, pronounced "kwums") is a historic community choir based at the University of Queensland's St Lucia campus. Established in 1912, it is one of the few non-auditioned choirs in Brisbane, welcoming singers of all ages, backgrounds, and musical abilities. While we're primarily a UQ student-run organisation, QUMS is open to all adult members of the public, whether or not you're connected to the university.
Our Music
QUMS sings a diverse repertoire spanning genres and eras, from Renaissance works to classical masterworks, contemporary pieces, and seasonal carols. We perform in a wide range of venues across Brisbane.
Our Year
QUMS generally presents two major concerts each year, one per university semester, alongside smaller events and collaborations with other musical organisations. The year usually closes with carolling at shopping centres and other locations around Brisbane, with recent appearances at Westfield Garden City, The Treasury Casino, and the Queen Street Mall.
Beyond the Music
There's much more to QUMS than Wednesday rehearsals, including sectionals, rehearsal camps, and a busy social calendar. You can read about all of it, along with fees and how to join, on our Membership 101 page.
QUMS acknowledges the continuing support of the University of Queensland Union, of which we are an affiliate society.
QUMS is grateful for the support of the Brisbane City Lord Mayor's Community Fund.
